I read books for the banter. It's why I love Jennifer Cruisie books so much. You can practically roll in the banter.

Basically I write dialogue for women to say all the cheeky, clever things I'd either wouldn't have the guts or think of in time to say; and I write all the stuff I wish men would say. *LOL*

Eve scoffed. “You couldn’t get me.”
“I got you once.”
“You’ll recall the options were limited.”
“Maybe you’re right. Maybe if we’d had all the options in the world, we never would have ended up together. Then again, maybe we would have. Come on, Evie, what’s so bad about me you wouldn’t have picked me again?”
“I assume you’re looking for an answer other than: you’re an asshole.”
“Babydoll, all men are assholes. We just have varying degrees of it.”

Okay, maybe that's not dead romantic...but does feel like it might at least be true. *LOL*

What do you look for in dialogue? Funny and bantery; or the "You are my favorite form of heroin" romantic whatnot?

I love intelligent banter. That might be why I loved Gilmore Girls so much. Sarcasm is always good, but when you can tell the characters are smart and witty, I'm all about it.

As you know, I'm reading Crusie's Bet Me and it is the BEST BOOK EVER!

In addition to the intelligent stuff, when they say something totally unexpected. Or totally opposite of what they're thinking. That's good stuff too.

Gilmore Girls was brilliant with the banter. Men will never understand that show. *LOL*

I'm all about banter. I love Crusie and I love SEP. I think they do banter really, really well.

I do like the romantic stuff too but IMHO you can't have too much of that or it doesn't sound sincere. That stuff is more for the ending of the book where they have to pull out the big guns.

Banter is very "every day" to me. The DH and I banter. My siblings and I banter. So, I suppose that seems more real to me.

BTW, glad you're back blogging. It looks like you've got the writing thing going big time lately. That's awesome!

I'm really liking the excerpts you're posting.

You do banter so well, Hellion. I'm envious.

I just gave you a Neno Award on Just Janga.
